The Department of Political Affairs at the African Union Commission invites applications from interested young leaders to join in the continental youth consultation on Constitutionalism and Rule of Law.
The Commission hosts an annual High Level Dialogue on Governance; Trends, Challenges and Prospects which started last year. The theme for 2013 is Enhancing Constitutionalism and Rule of Law.
As part of the value added for the High Level Dialogue, a youth consultation is proposed. The consultations are expected to begin at the National level led by youth councils, youth organisations or networks using different innovative tools; Facebook, Twitter, Traditional group emailing and if possible physical meetings.
This will lead to a Regional Youth Consultation on the 23rd and 24th of November 2013 in Dakar, Senegal. The national level youth consultation is to review, assess, discuss and harmonise Constitutional and Rule of Law issues as it affects young people in your country, with a position paper that will be presented at the Continental Meeting.
The Continental Youth Consultation will be held two days before the High Level trends to harmonize all the position papers from the Member states. A harmonized presentation will be made at the High Level trends with representatives of the youth taking part in high level panels and discussions.
The African Union seek Youth leaders who run organizations in different countries to volunteer and take the lead in their countries to conduct this consultation process within one month.
Due to budgetary constraints, the AU cannot provide financial support for the National Consultations. However, it is willing (dependent on available resources) to support the participation of one young person from each National Consultations to attend the Regional Consultation in Senegal.
